I was told by several people, including a Dutch couple to visit Noss. This last day at the Shetlands Island I had several hours left before going on the ferry to Orkney so I decided to do the tour.
With a small ferry to Bressay, just across the small isle and wait for the person who will take you to Noss. He is one of the two people living on the island to count and observe the birds. In a rubber dingy with only two other people, one French, one German we got some info before we started the interesting but extremely tough journey. If you do the complete round on the Island it is about 3 to 4 hours walk and get you up as high as almost 200 meters. Of course I did the complete round, not knowing it was that though.
The island is known especially for it's Gannets and you can make perfect shots from them flying into the wind. I think these birds are almost like the Concorde Airplane. I made many pictures and after some 1,5 hours I even reached the top. Just before I saw a boat doing the easy tour.
Some of the animals I saw:
A seal, one of several.
Noss

The Gannet in their flightmode.

And at their nests.

And a nice Puffin again.

Almost at the top (to the right).

At the ferry I had a reserved sleeping seat but I decided to use the lounge again as that is much more interesting and the Dutch people (Jan and Eveline) I spoke before were on the same ferry and we had a very talkative evening.
At 23.00 I arrived at the Guesthouse and I did not see the note posted so I rang the bell and the lady of the house was a bit upset and rather sleepy and not really nice. The following morning she apologized though.
BTW Overall I think the people from Shetland are much nicer, though Orkney is a much friendlier island, I mean scenic and nature wise.
